How to Study for the Exam
Deadlines and Fees
Application must be postmarked by November 15 for
the February exam and by April 1 for the July exam.
Applications are available October 1 for the February
exam and February 1 for the July exam. Exam fee: $250.
Late filing (with additional $250 fee) allowed for 15
days past deadlines.
Format
The Indiana Bar Exam is a two-day exam held in
Indianapolis. Day 1: Two 90-minute Multistate
Performance Test (MPT) questions and a four-hour
Indiana essay exam consisting of six questions. Day 2:
Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a six-hour 200 question,
multiple-choice exam.

Federal Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal
Law/Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, Torts.
Indiana Essay Subjects (IE)
Administrative Law, Agency, Commercial Law, Indiana
Constitutional Law, Corporations, Family Law,
Partnerships, Personal Property, Pleading and Practice,
Taxation, Trusts & Estates,Wills.

Multistate Performance Test (MPT)
Two Practical problems using instructions, facts,
cases, statutes, and other reference material supplied by the examiners.
Grades and Results
The MPT, IE, and MBE will be weighted: MPT 20%, IE 30%, MBE 50%.
The passing score will be a combined scaled score; 264
is required for passing. Normally, results are released 75
days after the exam.
